Scones and Tea @ The Tea Cosy

It was a beautiful sunny Friday and after lunch we took a stroll down the streets of The Rocks and Daz suggested, "There is a place that serves really good scones just around here... would you like to have one?". "No, I want to be healthy and I have been resisting scones served at work in my weekly meetings..."

"Ok, in that case, would you sit with me if I had a scone?", he asked. "If you are having one, I am having one too!", I exclaimed. Daz has been bashing how bad wheat is for your health and so when he is keen to have scones, which is normally made of wheat, I picked up that it must be really good!

So we found this Irish place called The Tea Cosy. Walking in to this shop, I immediately liked the setting... there were colourful knitted covered pots, brick walls, old wooden furniture, dainty pretty tea cups, vines of leaves sprawling on the meshed wooden gates in the courtyard...

The menu featured "Devonshire Tea", which are freshly baked scones served with double thickened cream and with a wide range of gourmet jams. The place also caters for high teas which includes cut sandwiches served on pretty high tea platters.

And for tea, there is a big selection of herbal teas... some of the fancy names were Red Fancy Fruit, Gunpowder Green, Turkish Apple... I went for Turkish Apple and it was very fruitily delicious!  They were served in pots covered in bright, colourful knits which were so cute :)

When the scones came, we were shocked because we had asked for 2 scones and we got 2 servings of 2 scones! One with currants and one plain... They were huge and I didn't feel like we could finish both but Daz said that we would have both so we did... The scones were freshly baked, soft and definitely deelicious! And yes, we had both of the scones and felt really full after!

Was it worth it? Totally!

Some interesting facts about SCONES:

  • Originated in Scotland
  • Pronunciation of scones is contentious... some pronounce it as skon and some as scone
  • The original scone was round and flat

Ratings

Food: Scones are good and teas were great!

Ambience: The courtyard has a very relaxing and earthy feeling that is great for a romantic date or girls' catch up.

Value: For $12.50 per person, 2 large scones with cream and gourmet jam and a pot of good tea is of decent value.

Nutritional value: Can't fault the scones for being full of carbohydrates as that's what most desserts/pastries are. For a place meant for dessert, this place is considered good in that it serves good fruity jams, herbal teas and fruit filled scones.

Overall: Dazzling & Deelicious!
